Shape Your Story: Foundations
Shape Your Story: Foundations is a beginner level workshop designed for writers looking to acquire foundational concepts in how to craft a novel. Whether you’re pre-published or just starting on your writing journey, this hybrid workshop will take you through the basics, giving you the strong foundation you need to build a story. You will learn how to structure a story, whether to outline or not, how to write convincing characters, create believable dialogue and realistic settings. I use examples from published books to illustrate the concepts you’re learning, as well as sharing from my experience as a published author, literary agent, and freelance editor.
This is a 4-session online workshop. Each week you will get a pre-recorded video presentation on the topic of the week, paired writing exercises for that topic, and a one-on-one Zoom meeting with me––Linda Epstein––for Q&A. This is available as a personalized, individual, one-on-one class. Or it can be taken as a small group experience if you have a critique group, or some writing buddies you would like to gather together. There is a discounted price when doing this as a group.
Shape Your Story: Foundations is an opportunity to take your writing to the next level. It is for people working on novels for adults, teens, or kids. It is not geared towards memoir, chapter book, picture book, or nonfiction writing.

One-on-one Individual Workshop: $850
Each week you will have a 1-hour individualized one-on-one Zoom meeting to get your questions answered. This workshop runs for four consecutive weeks, beginning on a mutually agreed-upon date.
Small Group Workshop: $650 (4 – 6 people)
Each week every participant has a 1/2-hour one-on-one Zoom meeting to get their questions answered. We also meet for a 1/2-hour each week as a group, to connect for more informal discussion. This workshop runs for four consecutive weeks, beginning on a mutually agreed-upon date.
- Weekly pre-recorded video presentations with access to videos for 4 weeks after course end
- Paired writing exercises for each topic
- Weekly individual Zoom meetings with your instructor
Please note that no written feedback on your writing is included in this workshop, but I offer a 10% discount on editorial services booked within one month of taking the course.
